Georgia-Pacific (G-P) signed an agreement this week to acquire SPG Holdings, a diverse paper goods converter and supplier for limited- and quick-service restaurants. The deal is expected to close later this year. SPG runs converting operations in Green Bay, WI, and Hattiesburg, MS, and a 34,000 tons/yr one-machine tissue paper mill in Augusta, GA. The Hattiesburg plant has 300,000 ft~2 and Green Bay 600,000 ft~2. For limited and quick-service restaurants, the firm offers a variety of specialty paper products, with focus on making napkins and towels, bags, and wrapping papers for sandwiches and other foods. The main end users for these food disposables are delis and coffee shops.
