International Paper reported $562 million in restructuring costs for permanently closing its Courtland, AL, uncoated freesheet (UFS) and bleached paper mill at the start of February. The shut, announced last September and begun in the fourth quarter with the retiring of two of the mill's four machines, eliminated 765,000 of UFS capacity and turned US UFS market pricing from negative to positive for papermakers, contacts said.
