Abitibi-Consolidated announced a 40/ton increase Friday in the price of supercalen-dered paper in North America effective April 1.Sources said they could not remember a previous occasion when Abitibi had initiated an SC price hike,and said this was further evidence of the company's determination to escape the profitability problems affecting the Canadian industry (see story p.2).
