US paper, board output dropped 1.2% last year; fourth annual fail in a row

For the fourth straight year, US paper and board production fell, declining 1.2% last year (vs 2013's total) to 79.48 million tons, according to the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA). The one-million-ton decline was fully on the paper side, where production dropped 5.4% to 30.6 million tons, from 32.3 million in 2013. Internet and mobile device technology has reduced demand for some printed papers.
