Metsaliitto Picks up baltic pulp stock

The Finnish group Metsaliitto has snapped up Sodra Cell's stake in Baltic Pulp,the company set up in early 2000 to build a market pulp mill in Latvia.The move has boosted Metsaliitto's ownership of the firm from 34% to 67%.The Latvian government has also decided to sell its 33% share in Baltic Pulp to Metsaliitto.A spokesman for the Finnish group indicated that the two parties will meet as soon as possible to reach an agreement on terms.The state and Metsaliitto will also discuss other issues such as wood supply,taxation and infrastructure investment.
