Tanker rates will fall,container rates climb in 2007

OIL TANKER RATES are expected to plummet in late 2006,as reduced oil production by OPEC creates excess capacity among tanker operators.According to a recent Bloomberg survey of market analysts,shipowners were earning 80,300 a day in the fourth quarter on the benchmark 40-day round-trip between the Middle East and Japan.That compares with 95,000 last year and about 82,500 in the third quarter.
