Why supply chains must be strategic

Rather than being an organizational structure, a supply chain strategy is a plan with goals and objectives. It is about using all of the elements involved in the sourcing and procurement of goods and services to produce better results for the company. Typically this integrated strategy is aimed at achieving such objectives as pushing a new product development faster, improving the use of technology, bringing products and services to market faster, improving the use of technology, bringing new products to market faster, minimizing resource investment, and reducing specific costs and response/cycle times. All such goals and objectives are achieved through better use of internal and supplier and customer capabilities.
