A mobile mammography pilot project to increase screening among Latina women of low socioeconomic status.

Cancer is the second-leading cause of death among Hispanic people in the United States and accounts for roughly 20% of all deaths in the U.S. In 2006, breast cancer remained the leading cause of new cancer cases and cancer deaths among Hispanic women. However, the incidence of breast cancer among Hispanic women was roughly 40% lower than the incidence among non-Hispanic white women. Explanations for this trend include variations in reproductive patterns and lower use of hormone replacement therapy, as well as under-diagnosis due to lower rates of mammography.
