Improve soil fertility with green manuring

Organic matter is considered as the backbone of cultivated soil. Green manures are not only rich source of nutrients but also add organic matter content into the soil. They improve nutrient balance, promote habitat for natural enemies and increase soil's biodiversity.It is well said that healthy soils lead to healthy plants. During earlier times when inorganic fertilizers were not available, farm yard manure was the main source of plant nutrients for crop production but increased dependence on inorganic fertilizers has reduced the trend of using these fertilizers. In current scenario, due to rise in price and lesser availability of chemical fertilizers, again the importance of organic manures is being realized. Since farm yard manure is not available in needed quantity, green manuring is the cheapest and suitable available alternative to maintain the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil.
