Internet: Beneficial for Farmers

Farmers need to be sensitized towards the benefits of internet in agriculture. They can get agricultural knowledge; answers about cropping strategies appropriate to their fields; integrated information on soil, weather and fertilizers; and managementof pests through various rural portals. With the advancement of science and technology, a new dimension in the field of information and communication has emerged drastically that is changing the vision and ways of working for many big sectors. The technology is named as 'Internet'. It has already captured the minor part of India's population i.e. the urban population which constitutes to be around 38 percent of the total population. Amongst them, almost 20 percent of the population has the access to internet. Now, due to easy access to digital devices and easy availability of mobile data (2G and 3G), internet is going to reach the major part of India's population i.e. the rural population. Internet can play a vital role in the upliftment of the rural population by exchanging the information through e-mails, chats, web portals etc.
