Balanced fertilizer use in deciduous fruit plants

Deciduous fruit plants, after training and pruning in the month of January, require fertilizer and manures application, in order to get high yield and good quality of fruits. DECIDUOUS fruit plants shed their leaves during winter season in the month of December and January and enters in the dormant stage called as sleeping stage of the plant. After training and pruning in the month of January, these plants require fertilizer and manures application. Fertilizers are the most important input to ensurehigh yield of quality produce and to maintain the plants in healthy condition. The fertilizer requirement and time of fertilizer application in the deciduous differ from the evergreen plants. Even the fertilizer requirement of fruit plants varies with the age of the plant. The fertilizer requirement and their time of application for these fruit plants are discussed below: Peach: Peach plant with age of 5 years or more requires 28 kg well decomposed farm yard manure (FYM), 1000 g urea, 760 g single superphosphate (SSP) and 830 g murate of potash (MOP), SSP and MOP should be applied in the month of December. However, split application of urea is advantageous in peach. Apply one-half of urea in the month of after pruning the plants and other half after fruit setting in the month of March. The fertilizer of peach plants with age less than 5 have been given in Table.
