Growing maize in summer

Maize crop is a viable alternative to replace some area occupied by rice. Punjab Agricultural University has developed promising maize hybrids possessing high grain yield potential that offer economic returns comparable to that of rice. PADDY-wheat rotation no doubt has played a significant role in national food security and simultaneously resulted in depletion of under ground water, deterioration in soil health and environmental pollution. These problems need to be addressed for the sustainability of these natural resources and at the same time meeting the food grain production for the ever-increasing human population. Under such a situation, maize crop is a viable alternative to replace some area occupied by rice. Punjab Agricultural University has developed promising maize hybrids possessing high grain yield potential and offering comparable economic returns to the farmers.
