Paddy processing at small scale

There are numerous mini rice mills working in Punjab. But normally in these mills, sheller and polishers are not of good quality. Recovery of rice is less and brokers are more. If these mills are operated properly then the loss will be less. The modern mini rice mill has rubber roll sheller. For polishing, cone polisher is used. This polisher ensures high head yield and less breakage of rice. There are only three machines in the mini rice mill and all other operations like cleaning and grading of paddy and rice are done manually. If these operations are also to be performed by the machines, then small cleaner and grader can be installed. The cost of this mini mill is Rs.50, 0007-only. To operate this mill, a motor of 10 h.p. is required. This mill can process 250 kg. of paddy per hour. It can be installed easily in a room of size 20'x20'.
