Control weeds in kharif crops for higher productivity

If left uncontrolled, the weeds not only reduce crop yield but also increase weed seed bank in soil which creates problems for succeeding crops. During kharif season, the competition from weeds becomes more severe as the growing season of kharif cropsprovides favourable conditions for the weeds to grow. WEEDS are the most troublesome crop pests when compared to insects, diseases, rodents etc. These compete with the crops for almost all the growth factors i.e. nutrients, moisture, soil, light, spaceetc. throughout the life span of .crops. If left uncontrolled, the weeds not only reduce crop yield but also increase weed seed bank in soil which creates problems for succeeding crops. During kharif season, the competition from weeds becomes more severeas the growing season of kharif crops provides favourable conditions for the weeds to grow. Under average infestation of weeds, yield levels of kharif crops reduce by 20-25 % and this loss may be much higher under heavy infestations of weeds. For economical returns, these undesirable plants need to be controlled with the adoption of an effective weed control method.
