To obtain the best yields, the maize crop should be sown during the first fortnight of June, potato in the first fortnight of October and onion in first fortnight of January. THE concept of organic farming excludes the use of synthetically manufactured fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators and livestock feed additives. Organic farming systems rely on crop rotations, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manures, off-farm organic wastes and biological pest control to maintain soil productivity and tilth, to supply plant nutrients and to control insects, weeds and other pests. Organic farming is more than just abandoning chemicals as it requires the elimination of persistent chemicals from soil. Generally, a three years transition periodis required to shift from chemical to organic farming with all the organic farming practices during the intervening period. There is a strong need to have buffer around organic field.
