Use herbicides for effective weed control in wheat

The losses due to weeds depend upon their type and density. On an average losses due to grass weeds, namely gullidanda and wild oats, ranges from 40 to 60 per cent. Losses due to broad leaf weeds may vary between 20 to 25 per cent. Herbicides are thechemicals which are toxic to weed plants but are very safe for crop plants. The control of weeds with herbicides had become very popular among the farmers of Punjab State because of its more effectiveness and cost efficiency in comparison to hand hoeing. Farmers use herbicides on more than 80 per cent of the total wheat sown area to control one or the other weed. These herbicides provide very quick and very effective control of weeds.
