Paras--A Single Cross Hybrid of Maize

DINGLE Cross hybrids are under cultivation in the USA and other developed countries, major successes have been achieved in increasing the productivity of maize. In India, however, double cross and double top cross hybrids, in addition one varietal hybrid and one three way hybrid, have so far been recommended for cultivation. A single cross hybrid named Paras, developed by Punjab Agricultural University has been released in 1995 for general cultivation under irrigated Conditions in Punjab. It is the first single cross hybrid recommended for general cultivation in the country. Paras has higher yield potential, highly uniform plant and ear types, possesses good level of resistance to lodging, stalk rots and maydis leaf blight. Paras has maintained itssuperiority over the national checks even in all India Coordinated trials conducted throughout the country.
