Sugarcane Varieties

VARIETAL purity is a very important feature in sugarcane agriculture. Varietal mixture, especially among different maturity groups, will cause loss in recovery of sugar to the sugar mills. This is not economically adviseable for the farmer too, sincevarietal mixture can result in rejection of his crop by the sugar mills. It, thus becomes imperative for the farmer as well as the cane staff at the mills to be well conversant with the production of genetically pure seed and the salient distinguishing features of different sugarcane varieties, for maintaining purity of seed.
