Basic information about fish farming

Fish farming is one of the most important allied activities in agriculture, It can be adopted especially in soils where commercial crops are difficult to raise and in land, which is low lying, water logged or flood land, It can be integrated successfully with other allied agricultural occupations, as by product of crops, animals, poultry birds, piggery etc. serves as feed for the fish. We can take the example of dairy, the fish farming fits well in this occupation because when the dairy animals (buffalo) goes in pond, they generally pass the dung in the pond water which serves as a source for plangton formation which is utilized as feed by fish. More over during summer when buffaloes are allowed to sit in the pond for a long period, the water does not only reduces the effect of heat but also increases the milk yield of the animals and when the animals disturb the standing pond water, the fish run in water resulting in exercising of the fish and increase of body weight of the fish. Hence, both animals & fish are benefitted by integation of dairy and fishery.
