Kinnow is the only fruit in Punjab state which is marketed in all the major cities of the country and also exported in small quantities. However, about 20-25 percent of the total produce is lost due to faulty method of harvesting, grading, packing,storage and transportation etc. The kinnow mandarin occupies about 33 percent of the total area under fruits in Punjab and its share in total fruit production is more than 35 percent. It is the only fruit of the state which is marketed in all the major cities of the country and also exported in small quantities. However, about 20-25 percent of the total produce is lost due to faulty method of harvesting, grading, packing, storage and transportation etc. it requires care during picking, packing and marketing because of its delicate peel and consumer prefer full coloured, firm and fresh appearing fruits. By following below said practices losses can be minimized and the availability of fruits to the consumer and returns to the farmer can be improved.
