Heart diseases were considered to be uniquely male problem earlier. But" recent surveys have shown that the risk is on the increase in women and that too at a younger age. Heart is a muscle that pumps 2000 gallons of blood every day. Heart consists oftwo muscles or pumps, each consisting of two chambers. As the muscles contract, blood flows from the upper chamber "latrium" to the lower chamber "ventricle". Blood flows from the body to the right atrium through the venous system, from here it goes tothe right ventricle so that it may be supplied to the lungs, where carbondioxide is removed and oxygen is added. The enriched blood enters the left atrium, passes into the left ventricle and is circulated in the body through arterial system and the cycle goes on.
