The efficacy of metsulfuron methyl in cereals.

Field studies to evaluate the efficacy of a new active ingredient (metsulfuron methyl) for broad-leaved weeds control in cereals were carried out during 2005-2007. The experiments were located in the Research Station of Department of Agronomy in Chylice. Herbicide was applied in winter cereals: wheat cv. Zyta, Tonacja, Finezja, winter triticale cv. Magnat, Fidelio, spring cereals: wheat cv. Vinjet, Napola, Korynta, Zura and barley cv. Justyna, Ryton. Metsulfuron methyl was applied at two doses (4 and 6 g/ha) and in mixture with carfentrazon ethyl (4+20 g/ha). Metsulfuron methyl effectively controlled Veronica arvensis, Matricaria inodora, Stellaria media, Capsella bursa-pastoris and Lamium amplexicaule (89-99%). Data showed that the application of metsulfuron methyl with carfentrazon ethyl gave the highest efficacy of weed control, especially Galium aparine and Veronica spp. and Chenopodium album.
