Health status of four cultivars of spring barley in 1998-2002, cultivated under organic system in comparison to others farming systems.

The health status of harvested grains of spring barley cultivars Rudzik, Rodos, Start and Maresi grown under an organic system was determined. Analyses showed that all cultivars were intensely infested by Bipolaris sorokiniana [Cochliobolus sativus]. Comparative analysis of the health of cv. Rudzik cultivated under organic, integrated and conventional systems showed that B. sorokiniana was the most prevalent grain pathogen under the organic system, whereas Fusarium spp. was the most dominant pathogen in either integrated or conventional system. The mean grain infestation by B. sorokiniana and Fusarium spp. was 55.8 and 23.5% in the organic system, 6.3 and 56.3% in the integrated and 7.5 and 47.5% in the conventional system, respectively..
