Chemical plant protection in minor agricultural crops

Problems of chemical plant protection in minor crops (such as vegetables) are much bigger than in major crops. Not so many chemicals are registered for minor crops. The market of minor crops is small and the chemical producers are not interested in registration of plant protection products for minor crops because the cost of research and registration in minor crops are much higher than the profit, which they can get after selling the chemicals for these crops. According to the Directive 91/414 of the European Commission during the review, not all of the active substances would be on Annex I. Because the cost of review is too high, not all producers pay for that. The second reason is that during re-registration, some crops, mainly minor, are off from the label. These are some of the reasons why not so many chemical products are on the list for use in minor crops. The Agricultural Commission of EU is working on this problem..
