In the performed the reaction of 5 winter wheat varieties (Bogatka, Kobra Plus, Opus, Tonacja, Zyta) to growth retardants CCC and trinexapac ethyl was compared. The experiments were conduced in hydroponic cultures. In each treatment retardants were added to nutrient solution on 10th day of the experiment. After 7 days, the growth parameters were determined (length of shoot and roots and fresh weight of these organs). Each of the varieties were affected by decrease in elongating growth of shoots of the plants. The level of this effect was expanding with increase of the concentration of the retardants. The Bogatka and Zyta varieties showed the greatest sensitivity to applied substances. However, the decrease in elongating growth of shoot didn't go along with the decrease in growth of the roots of researched plants. The mass increase of roots was greatest in the Bogatka, Tonacja and Zyta varieties.
