摘要

The potential to reduce the prevalence of sight-threatening eye disease occurring in people with diabetes has been enhanced by significant improvements in technology, including the use of routine digital photography for screening and optical coherence tomography allowing more detailed assessments of macular disease, as well as significant improvements in less destructive therapies than laser for sight-threatening retinopathy, for example the use of intraocular growth factor inhibitors such as ranibizumab/Lucentis. However, one fundamental problem with sight-threatening eye disease has always been getting people to have this screening in the first place.
