An international partnership to implement innovative systems of health care delivery for diabetes in a developing country

Sri Lanka's development indicators place it above countries with comparable income,1 but non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a major concern.2 With competing priorities health care struggled to meet the demand for quality care.The Sri Lankan government is committed to improving the skills of its health care workforce and encourage collaboration with institutions in other countries. The Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust (SFHT), Sheffield Hallam University and University of Sheffield have an ongoing partnership with the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo, Sri Lanka, in training Sri Lankan specialists and nurses in diabetes and endocrinology.
