摘要

An exciting year lies ahead for Canada’s Chemical Management Plan (CMP). The last federal budget committed Canadian $491.8m over five years, beginning in 2016. This will be used to complete remaining chemicals assessments, under the plan, and manage the risks of chemicals found to be harmful to the environment and/or human health. It provides us with the necessary resources to roll out the third and final phase of the CMP, to be launched later this year. In 2016, we plan to develop sound approaches to grouping priority chemicals that still need to be assessed, based on their uses or the implicated industry sectors. We expect that this will help us to streamline and better direct our efforts, while still remaining accountable and transparent in our process. Another important exercise for 2016 is to update Canada’s Domestic Substances List, by specifying which chemicals are in the Canadian market. This will involve continued consultation and engagement with industry and other interested parties.
