Why international cooperation on chemicals is essential

Sustainable development cannot be achieved nationally or globally unless chemicals are managed safely. An analysis by the Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) has indicated that sound chemicals management directly contributes to eight of the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the UN last year. Institutional capacity is an important element in achieving the safe use of chemicals. Therefore, countries need to cooperate and share experiences with each other, something that Kemi is actively involved in.
