“I am proud to be French: on regulatory measures for bisphenol A, we are among the leaders, and in research into endocrine disruption, we are a leader as well”, Michele Rivasi, a Green MEP and member of the European Parliament’s Environment Committee, told a French government conference in December. The reasons for Ms Rivasi’s pride in her home country’s track record on endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have gained a lot of attention. In 2010, it was one of the first countries in the world to pass a law banning the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in baby feeding bottles (CW 24 June 2010), while the French Senate recently passed a law banning BPA from all food contact packaging from the beginning of 2015 (CW 18 December 2012).
