Sodas, high fructose corn syrup, and obesity: Let's focus on the right target.

Five papers in this month's issue of Preventive Medicine deal with various aspects of obesity prevention through reduction of energy consumption (Bodor et al., 2010; Clune et al., 2010; Kipping et al., 2010; Maruyama et al., 2010; Singh and Lopez-Jimenez, 2010). Their publication timing, however, occurs in a rapidly changing political environment.Several recent initiatives indicate that the momentum is moving away from discussing the causes of the obesity epidemic towards identifying strategies that will effectively break its progression.
