Clever chemists cook up special FX for value-add: Ink and coatings manufacturers are investing more time and money in R&D; that should help printers target high-value applications
Historically manufacturers used to unveil new ink ranges every three to five years. Often these inks were launched to great fanfare and would accompany a new piece of hardware. However, in recent years things have changed. Today, equipment and ink manufacturers are investing significant sums of money into research and development (R&D) to produce a continuous cycle of new ink and coating products capable of creating eye catching special effects. This is partly in response to customer demand for a greater range of products that they in turn can sell onto their clients - or use to tap into lucrative new emerging markets.
