Meeting Corrosion Management Challenges in the Offshore Industry

Annual corrosion surveys in a number of industrialised countries show that, across a range of industry sectors, corrosion costs these countries up to 531 of their GDP. It is widely documented that corrosion plays a dominant role in reducing the reliability and service life of offshore assets. Indeed, managing corrosion effectively will take care of the majority of your integrity issues. With over 501 of platforms in the North Sea exceeding 25 years of service operators are currently facing significant challenges to maintain production against a backdrop of ageing assets, shortage of technically skilled people, spiralling costs and falling oil prices. At the same time the UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is increasing regulatory pressures on duty holders to demonstrate the future integrity of these ageing assets without compromising their legal duties to safeguard their personnel and the environment
