Blown oil ceramer coatings for corrosion protection

Corrosion, the degradation of materials due to chemical reaction, represents a tremendous economic loss in the industrized countries. Many efforts have been made to protect metal from the corrosion. The application of coatings is the most popular method since it can afford a physical barrier between the substrate and corrosion environment, a reservoir for corrosion inhibitors, and desired physical and chemical properties to substrate. Recently, ceramer coatings utilizing the sol-gel precursor have become more interesting for corrosion protection of the metal substrate. Silicon alkoxides are the most widely used sol-gel precursors, and ceramer coatings based on tetraethyl orthosilcate (TEOS) have demonstrated unique ability to improve adhesion and corrosion resistance.
