摘要

Carbon coated silica, made by flame synthesis was investigated for the reinforcement of styrene butadiene (SBR) rubber. By varying the processing conditions in the flame it is possible to tune carbon content and structure of the silica. The carbon coated silica powders were investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and nitrogen absorption using BET method. These powders were compounded with styrene butadiene elastomers and their effect on reinforcement was measured. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and tensile testing were used to measure the reinforcement of the elastomer compounds.
