New Views in Photogrammetry: One hundred years of Photogrammetric Week were celebrated in Stuttgart.

The first Photogrammetric Week was held in Jena in 1909 under the direction of Carl Pulfrich. The 100th anniversary of that event was celebrated this year in Stuttgart on 7-11 September. This year, Professor Dieter Fritsch, the head of the Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at Stuttgart University, directed the 52nd Photogrammetric Week. I was fortunate to be able to attend the event along with nearly 500 participants from 62 countries. Photogrammetric Week details advances in photogrammetry, remote sensing and GIS. While the early events were exclusively devoted to Zeiss equipment, today's include manufacturers, software developers and instrument suppliers from a broad market. The mornings are filled with invited lecturers describing their academic research, mixed with the latest developments in hardware and software from manufacturers. The afternoons are devoted to demonstrations of equipment. Evenings involve typical German hospitality: the local wine festival is often held during the Week. There are also other enjoyable activities in true Schwabian (southwest German) style.
