摘要

Spatial information has historically been managed in isolation (in silos), with little or no relation to connected environments that help manage the data and assets throughout the lifecycle of the infrastructure. The massive growth in the different types and increased availability of spatial data has been a difficult problem for utilities to manage and therefore maximise its value to the business. In the past, spatial data was considered by utilities simply as a digital map - a digital representation of objects found on maps. As such, digital maps could be considered unintelligent. The growth in the availability of different types of spatial data enables GIS technology to serve as a platform for intelligent design and engineering applications, an enabler for a host of operations applications, and providing geospatial context to all sorts of information and systems.
