HOG producers are enjoying one of the most profitable periods in history. John Lawrence, Iowa State University economist, calculates the typical Iowa farrow-to-finish operation had its 34th consecutive profitable month in November — a record. "Historically, solid profits have enticed producers to expand at a 5% to 8% annual pace," says Dan Bluntzer, Frontier Risk Management, Robston, Texas.
