THERE were eight buckaroos working the spread when Jon Hansen and college buddy Scott Allison showed up back in 1994 to lend a hand. Eight cowboys and all the expense that can go with them. "Now, it's basically just me and Jon," says Allison, who ended up marrying Hansen's sister, Jody, and staying on at this southwestern Montana ranch. Actually, that's not quite all there is to it. True, for the most part it's Hansen and Allison working the ranch's yearling calves and 1,200 mother cows, but makingthat mostly two-man show possible is a tidy little crew of well-honed, hard-working cow dogs. Four-legged cowpunchers don't complain, don't miss work and are always ready for more.
