WHEN seeding grass for hay or pasture, many farmers decide which species they want and then order an orchardgrass or a timothy or a smooth bromegrass without regard to variety. Farmers who pay great attention to selecting the best corn hybrid or soybean variety often don't consider variety when buying grass. Yet, a bad grass variety may cost much more in lost yield and performance than choosing a low-yielding corn hybrid or soybean variety since the grass stand will last for many years.
