VIRGIL kept pretty good track of his "old ticker." His father had died of a heart attack in his late 50s, before he ever got to know any of his 21 grandchildren. Vir1gil thought he was luckier. He had watched his nine grandchildren grow up and even marry. Now there were even some new babies on the scene as the great-grandchildren were beginning to arrive. Alice kept a pretty good eye on Virgil's diet. She also made sure they both made it in for their annual checkups, even if Virgil didn't particularly like fitting it into his busy routine. Oh, there had been some minor problems over the years, but nothing that had put them out of commission for very long. They still enjoyed an occasional round of golf and worked part-time to maintain their edge. Their trips weren't quite as long or adventuresome as they used to be, but they still liked getting away... especially for something with the kids or grandkids.
