Glyphosate resistance keeps spreading north

WITH more reports of glyphosate resistance each year, many are probably wondering if the herbicide is on the ropes. University of Illinois weed scientist Aaron Hager says thus far, three Illinois weed species have confirmed glyphosate resistance: waterhemp, horseweed/mares-tail and Palmer amaranth. "Giant ragweed may join that list in the near future," Hager adds. U of I is currently testing giant ragweed biotypes for resistance. Hager notes it is difficult to produce plants in a greenhouse setting.
