I've always paid our kids $5 per hour for helping on the farm. Our oldest is 14 and will miss half the summer in 4-H and FFA activities. My wife thinks I should pay him the same as the other two boys get, but I don't think that teaches the right lesson. What do you think? Dunteman: If your son worked for another business, he would only be paid for the hours he actually worked. I realize that he is getting real-life experience by being heavily involved in 4-H and FFA, but he must learn to balance work and personal issues.
