摘要

BOSTON—Three paint manufacturers found responsible for creating a public nuisance because of lead paint in buildings in Rhode Island would have to pay approximately 2.4 billion in abatement and related costs under a plan filed in court Sept. 14 by the state attorney general (Rhode Island v. Lead Industries Ass'n, R.I. Super. Ct., No. 99-5226, 9/14/07). Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch filed the 134-page Rhode Island Lead Nuisance Abatement Plan at the direction of Rhode Island Superior Court Judge Michael A. Silverstein, who earlier this year upheld a jury finding from 2006 in the state's landmark case against the paint manufacturers.
