Overland Ready Mix Sand and Gravel, located in York, Nebraska, is a large ready mix operation that distributes concrete throughout the central part of the state. The company was experiencing inconsistent cement flow from its storage bins that was handicapping the company's batching operation. Overland uses tow 180-ton silos for cement, which gravity feeds into scales for weighing. Ball-type aeration pads previously installed in the silos failed to provide a smooth flow. The sluggish movement of cement caused plugging and even backflow of material into aeration blowers, which resulted in significant downtime. Overland tried cloth-style aeration pads-with the same poor results.
