BAYER AG will spin off its MaterialScience plastics group into a separate, publicly-traded company within the next 12 to 18 months. The German chemical giant today confirmed reports that the split would allow the main company to operate as a life sciences business. In a statement, it said that the decision had been made on Sept. 2, but the supervisory board would fully discuss the plan during a meeting today.
