The industry must invest in gene conservation and'the first step should he to preserve records of existing stocks, before it is too late. Dr Hunton's commendable article on gene conservation in the August 1995 edition of POULTRY INTERNATIONAL mustremind some of us of those coastraints of the coroner - who, how, when and where. Fortunately our victim is not yet quite dead. But, as Dr Hunton points out, there is a "Conspicuous absence of any compelling commercial justification for large-scale investment in gene conservation."
