The south african grain, livestock and dairy sector model

Over the past three years the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development at the University of Pretoria has developed the South African grain, livestock and dairy sector model. This sector model is the first to give a quantitative analysis and projections of how different policy options as well as a range of macroeco-nomic variables will affect the supply and demand of agricultural products in South Africa. The model is a recursive, dynamic partial equilibrium model. It uses econometric techniques to estimate a range of behavioural equations, which are then linked up in a system of equations.
