In a welcome move for an industry long suffering the effects of high input costs and cheap imports, the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) has imposed antidumping duties of between 22% and 73% on poultry imports from the U.K., the Netherlands and Germany.Effective from the 4th July, a 22% duty has been applied to imports from the UK, 22.8% to imports from the Netherlands, and 31.3% on imports from Germnay's Wiesenhof, with the remainder from that country attracting a full 73.3%.Although the duties were not as high as that applied for by SAPA, namely 91% for chicken from Germany and the Netherlands and 58% on UK imports, the measure will bring some relief to local producers, at least until January 2015, when they are set to expire.
