摘要

The failed Russian Revolution of 1905 provoked a 'suicide epidemic' that was interpreted by the Bolsheviks as yet another demonstration of the pernicious effects capitalism had upon a society crying out for change. But after the successful Revolution of 1917, suicide did not suddenly disappear. Instead, it was to remain an uncomfortable reminder for the Bolsheviks that their expectation of a pristine new society to accompany the political sea change were not going to plan.
